David wakes up after 200 years to discover himself in a world in which there are thirty times as many women as men. It is a luxurious, prosperous, soporific world. The pioneering, dynamic, daredevil human spirit has been lost. David still has it, and he is kept in luxurious custody and trained to take command—discontented men are planning a violent rebellion, and only he will be able to defeat it. The rebels first try to bully and bribe him, and then they kidnap him and coerce him to support their cause with threats against Jillena, the one woman who truly understands and loves him. In a final scene of total victory he simultaneously unmasks the leaders of the rebel movement, defuses the rebellion by promising the thousands of followers that their grievances will be met, and publicly declares his love for his beautiful Jillena.
